QAGOMA, Great Art Debate: Classical vs Contemporary, virtual debate, recorded Sunday 15 August 2021, in conjunction with the exhibition ‘European Masterpieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York’, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in collaboration with the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art and Art Exhibitions Australia. Art historians Dr Louise R Mayhew and Mary McGillivray battle it out to detremine which is superior – classical or comtemporary art? Eventual winner Dr Mayhew cities Michelle Vine’s work (at approx. the 43 min mark) as evidence for the repatriative healing power of contemporary art in section two on ‘the mind’.
